Early Years and Education

Dr. Boitumelo Ramatsetse hails from Mpumalanga province, specifically Siyabuswa, where he spent most of his primary school years. Later, his family relocated to Pretoria North, where he completed his high school education at Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz1.

Academic Path

  • Doctor of Engineering Degree: In November 2019, Dr. Ramatsetse completed his Doctor of Engineering Degree. His academic journey took a significant turn when he was appointed as a Research Associate in the Faculty of Engineering at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) from 2021 to 2026.
  • Lecturer at Stellenbosch University: Following his tenure at TUT, he became a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering at Stellenbosch University (SU).
  • Research and Innovation: Dr. Ramatsetse’s research interests span various areas, including reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS), production systems, mineral processing systems, and machine design. His work has resulted in over 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 4 book chapters, and presentations at both local and international conferences.
  • Patents and Awards: His innovative contributions extend beyond academia. Dr. Ramatsetse successfully filed three patents in South Africa and China. Additionally, he has received over 20 awards and recognitions, including the prestigious NSTF-South32 TW Kambule Emerging Researcher Award in 20211.
  • Leadership Roles: Dr. Ramatsetse’s commitment to leadership and academia is evident. He has served on various committees, including the Examination Board Committee, Honours program coordinator, Departmental Committee for Research and Innovation, and the ECSA Committee for National Infrastructure.

Current Role

Dr. Ramatsetse is currently a member of the National Planning Commission (NPC) in the Office of the Presidency, Republic of South Africa. His expertise in engineering, design, risk analysis, problem-solving, project management, manufacturing, innovation, and leadership makes him a valuable asset to the NPC
